Data Logging

When data logging is enabled in the level meter with a 30sec interval, are the Leq measurements for the preceding 30 second period or are they cumulative from when the meter started? If they are for the 30 sec periods can an overall Leq be calculated from a sequence of individual 30sec measures? Thanks in advance.

  • @benfaber can you please have a look at my query above, see if it makes sense to you and provide an answer. I can't find this in the documentation.

are the Leq measurements for the preceding 30 second period, or are they cumulative from when the meter started?

It depends on how you have the logging configured. By default, the Leq measurements would be from the time the meter started.

To set them up as cumulative:
    1. Make sure the Leq Averaging Time is set to ∞.
    2. In the options menu, under Data Logging, Reset Leq at Intervals should be switched off.

If cumulative then the final log file should contain the overall Leq from when the meter started.

    Yes.

Or, if they are for the 30 sec periods can an overall Leq be calculated from an average of individual 30sec measures?

    Yes.

If you want the Leq to only measure 30 second intervals:
    1. In the options menu, set Log Interval to 30 seconds.
    2. Reset Leg at Intervals should be switch on.

You can combine Leq values for several intervals to yield an Leq value for the total time. Note that there's a proper way to do this--computing an average of the dB values directly won't give a correct result.
