The File Player tool allows up to 8 channels of data to be played back from an audio file. SignalScope's ability to directly analyze output signals means that the contents of an audio file can also be analyzed by any of various analysis tools in real time.
The File Player supports loading local files (stored within SignalScope), audio from your Music Library, or files accessible via the iOS file browser, which can access files from other apps, such as Files (iCloud Drive) or Dropbox.
The File Player supports AIF, CAF, and WAV audio file formats. When an external file is imported, the audio data is stored in a local file using one of the three supported audio file formats.
During playback, the File Player directly monitors time waveforms and signal levels of the file's audio channels. The data visible in the time waveform plot can also be exported to a data file, saved to an audio file, or saved as an image in a PDF file, using the action button in SignalScope's main toolbar.
Each audio channel in the loaded file can be independently routed to any of the current audio hardware's available output channels. This means, for example, that a single audio file channel can be monitored on multiple physical output channels, or that multiple audio file channels can be monitoroed on a single physical output channel.
Operation
Tap the file import button to choose an audio file to import. When the file is loaded, a graphical representation of all the audio data in all the file's channels will be displayed in the audio file overview near the bottom of the screen.
Drag the blue selection handles on the left or right side of the audio file overview to select start and end points for playback of the audio in the file. Drag the green playback head to adjust the current file playback position.
Tap the play button to begin playback. If you would like playback to be looped (to repeat indefinitely), tap the repeat button.
During playback, press the stop button (white square) to stop playback and return the current playback position to the beginning of the file. Or, press the pause button to pause recording while keeping the current playback position. While playback is paused, press the play button to resume from the current playback position.
To export the data from the file to a new audio file, tap the export button to the right of the import button. If the Trim to Selection option is switched on in the File Player's options menu, only the selected data (represented by the audio file overview's blue selection region) will be exported to the new audio file. This is a handy way to trim the data in an existing audio file.
Tap the File Info button to see the audio file's important info and metadata, including any special metadata stored in the file by the Data Recorder tool.
